Training and Support
Over the years, JAME has developed expertise in supporting and guiding professional teams that work closely with people from immigrant backgrounds.
Whether you are a school or community organization serving young children, school-age children, or adults, JAME can help you raise awareness among your staff or volunteers about the challenges of second-language learning in the context of immigration. Our training sessions provide research-based information and insights into the language practices of multilingual families. They help mobilize your teams around strategies to support these families’ French language learning and, more broadly, their well-being.
An initial consultation will allow JAME to understand your situation and specific needs. We will work with you to determine the duration of the training and the details of the support provided.
Topics covered, as needed:
- Language Development in a Multilingual Context
- Some basics of learning a second language
- What the research says about bilingualism
- Intervention in a multilingual setting
- Approaches to Promoting Multilingual Literacy
- Discoveries in Bilingual and Multilingual Books
- Communication and Collaboration with Parents in a Multilingual Environment
Examples of organizations for which JAME has developed training programs:
- The Quebec Federation of Family Community Organizations (FQOCF)
- The Association of Community Daycare Centers of Quebec (AHGCQ)
- The Coalition of Community Organizations Fighting School Dropout (ROCLD)
- The Social Center for Immigrant Assistance (CSAI)
