Introduction to Reading and Writing

ELÉ, or early literacy development, refers to all the reading and writing skills that children aged 0 to 5 acquire in their natural environment, without formal instruction. This is the ideal time to foster a love of reading!

Summer Reading Tents

The reading tents are designed to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for reading, for families, toddlers, and older readers aged 6 to 12. They also provide an opportunity to raise parents’ awareness of the joy of reading as a family, as well as the many short- and long-term benefits of these shared moments around a book. At each of its events, JAME takes care to present engaging books suited to different reading levels and interests, and of course in multiple languages.

Other initiatives

Reading activities for preschoolers have been a core part of JAME’s expertise for many years. Whether at our reading corner at 4400 LaSalle Boulevard, in parks, or at our partners’ locations, we always make sure to get down to the children’s level.

Our activities are always tailored to our audience, may incorporate multiple languages, and encourage verbal interaction—such as storytelling and nursery rhymes—to stimulate young children’s phonological awareness and language skills from an early age.
